Cleaning up the seams and putting together the inside flower bits.The pieces were so small that, even with a pressure pot, I was getting air bubbles. I ended up pouring with the mold open, and topping it off after strapping it together. A little more clean up than usual, but those tiny chisels get the job done easy. Tinted translucent resin with ghost chameleon flakes, layered with acrylic tints for shading, finished with a high gloss varnish.

FBF to these sweet swirl Froyo Fellas I made a few years back. What are they even? Glad you asked.
With swirls born of machines and magic, these dapper darlings inspire sugary mischief wherever they go. The spirit of a Froyo Fella is a dichotomy of crunchy, creamy complexity. Sharper than ice cream, these low fat adventurers brave the sunshine to seek a life outside the froyo shop, wild animals in their own right. The Froyo Fellas are full of wiggles and giggles, but sometimes bite–so watch your fingers.
For this step, I diluted acrylic paint with airbrush medium. This helps the paint flow into the details while maintaining some transparency in the high points. It’s all about making those final details pop.

Just a few finishing touches before this one’s ready for varnish.
The base is resin cast from a mold I made of tree bark. The last pic is the bark before and after paint. Bark texture is fun to work with. I’ve always meant to do more of these. 🖌

I save my old T-shirt’s to cut up and reuse as paint rags. Paper towels rip and leave annoying fibers behind, but old T-shirt’s don’t.
Getting ready for a coat of airbrushed glitter Normally I do my masking with tape, but for tiny things like this, clay works better. Can’t get glitter on those monster teeth! 😬
I started with a 2D design by Jeremy Villines. I converted it into a 3d pattern in cardboard. We used the template to make a plexiglass mold and slush cast the tinted resin in layers. The plexiglass molds for the full crystals were built from 82 pieces! The exhibit is up all year at the Center for Puppetry Arts.
I made 200 crystal shards for the Dark Crystal Ball at the Center for Puppetry Arts tomorrow night. This is the biggest edition of collectibles I’ve made to date, and it was super satisfying to see them in a pile. Get yours with a ticket to the ball at puppet.org
Painting silver/gold accents on this Stardust Dreamer. All those dreamy lumps and bumps. This step takes hours.
I slush cast them with multiple pours of resin and use epoxy clay to reinforce the back.
