I’m really having fun with this macro lens!
Each Gumhead finger is about 1/16 of an inch wide. ? I’ll be posting more process pics and teasers as the release date approaches. Follow @kaijucult for updates. There’s a lot of awesome art in this show!
Trying out time remapping on process videos.
I’m new to video editing, but starting to have fun with it. The learning never stops!
Another double cast close up
Taking abstract photos of my creature art is my favorite thing. I love the unexpected details, micro landscapes revealed by new angles.
Close up
Double cast resin before varnish
All the little monsters with their new teeth, ready to get arms
More tree bark casting
I bent this piece into a circle as it was curing.
Playing with some experimental molds
]
This is a resin cast with painted details taken from a silicone mold of tree bark.
Trying out some Cast Magic powder
I started by dusting the mold with the silver powder. The color resin I fill the mold with affects how the powder looks in the final cast. This cast is backed with black resin.
Figuring out how to hold tiny things while painting is always a challenge
A large part of making tiny things is figuring out how to hold them while working on them. I’ve made all sorts of strange rigs to make it work!
Airbrushing the first coat
More cauliflower resin casting, just because.
This guy is cast in pink resin with purple rubbed into the details. Cauliflower is awesome!
Second paint layer
For this round, I used a medium golden brown to add mid-tones to the casts.
Almost finished cleaning off the warts
The bubbles are created by little pockets of air that get trapped in the silicone mold. The resin fills the bubbles during the casting process, forming warts! They can usually be picked off pretty easily.

Resin magic! Casting the swirl for a little Froyo Fella
I used Smooth-Cast 300. It cures faster in thicker areas, which is why the white blooms in certain spots and spreads out. I sprayed the mold with release, dusting it after with baby powder to help draw the resin into the details.
He lives!
The first fro-yo cast was successful! Next I’ll be experimenting with different colors and painting techniques so I can plan a color scheme for the edition. Yay!
The Cupcake Cuties are on sale!
